Our Mission
At Salem Student Ministry, we want our students to Reach, Teach, Train & Send. We are called to live our lives so that our friends will see who Jesus Christ is by the way we act and the things that we do. We are called to learn more about Jesus daily. We are willing to be molded by Him so that we do things the way He did them. And then we take this call to wherever God puts us: at home, at school, at work, and in our communities. We are Salem Student Ministry.
Meet the Staff
Brett Bortnem - Director of Student Ministry
Brett Bortnem is our Director of Student Ministry here at Salem Ministries. He started here in July 2011 and moved here from Sugar Land with his wife and daughter where they resided for 5 years. He loves getting to hang out with students at football games, concerts, retreats and everything in between. His favorite food is macaroni and cheese and he never has been a fan of long walks on the beach. Short strolls are okay though. If he could trade places with anyone in the world for a day it would be with a fighter jet pilot because “that would just be really cool.” When he isn’t at work, Brett enjoys taking walks with his family, working out, and watching college sports, especially anything dealing with Texas A&M! Whoop!
Jayme Nichols - Associate Director of Student Ministry
While not a native Texan Jayme Nichols and her family have lived and served here since 2007. A few of her favorite things are hearing her two kids laugh, reading, listening to music, watching reality TV with her hubby, and being with people she loves. She also enjoys playing sports, but due to old age and laziness has not done so in a LONG time! In June of 2011 Jayme joined the Salem staff as the Associate Director of Student Ministry. She is a certified Director of Christian Education and has served in two other congregations before serving here at Salem. Her favorite aspect of ministry is building relationships with students and seeing God use those relationships to show who He is. You might hear her say things like “you guys” and “pop” instead of “y’all” and “soda”, but don’t hold it against her (she’s from Michigan she can’t help it).
